Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB) is responsible for developing and delivering Metrea’s aerial refueling (AAR) capabilities, ensuring the readiness and operational effectiveness of the tanker fleet. AIRMOB oversees fleet management, maintenance, and airworthiness, working to sustain and enhance refueling operations. Position Summary
The C-135FR Lead Pilot is responsible for the safe, effective, and knowledgeable operation of the C-135FR aircraft. This role combines operational leadership with technical expertise to support flight operations, training, and fleet integration. The individual will serve as both a command pilot and a technical advisor, ensuring mission readiness and procedural excellence across all phases of flight.
Role and Responsibilities
Flight Operations & Command Duties
- Command a crew of three during emergency and non-emergency scenarios, ensuring safe and efficient mission execution.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections, checklists, and documentation in accordance with standard procedures.
- Maintain situational awareness and apply Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles throughout all flight phases.
- Adhere to company Flight Operation Procedures (FOPs), Ground Operation Procedures (GOPs), FAA regulations, and Safety Notices.
- Maintain all required flight currencies, qualifications, and advanced systems knowledge related to the MSM KC-135 tanker fleet.
- Ensure safe operation of the aircraft in all phases of flight, including normal, abnormal, and emergency situations.
Expertise & Training
- Provide technical support and guidance on the proper operation of communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.
- Conduct hands-on training with personnel on C-135FR systems, cockpit layout, and switchology.
- Attend recurring virtual meetings with MSM aircrew and staff to discuss operational procedures, systems, and fleet issues.
- Provide feedback on aircrew progress during weekly teleconferences with MSM staff.
Fleet Support
- Provide on-site technical support during flights.
- Be available and qualified to fly onboard the C-135FR aircraft as needed.
- Perform all other duties that support the mission and operational readiness of the C-135FR fleet.
Skills and Experience
Education
- College degree or equivalent
Experience
- 9+ years working with the C-135FR aircraft.
- Proven and demonstrable attention to detail skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, being able to determine causes of errors and deciding on the course of action to solve.
- Must be able to take initiative and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to read and understand the information presented in writing, diagrams, and schematics.
- Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance.
- Must have good command of the English language, oral and written
Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products (specifically Word and Excel)
Certifications
- Required license - Past C-135FR rating and until at least 2020
- Valid Driver’s License
- Current Passport

- Maintain all applicable medical and flight certifications

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, typical working hours are 7-hour days including 45-60 day rotations abroad. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs.
Work Location
Primary work location is in France, with frequent international rotations abroad.
Work Environment
This job operates in both an office setting and onboard an aircraft during flight operations.
Travel
Domestic and International Travel will be required approximately 49% of the time on a 45-60 day rotational basis.
